No Cookies in this Jar
I certainly could go to the trouble of displaying a banner, informing you of your right to either accept or opt–out of the use of cookies, when visiting this website. This measure, however, would be a waste of time and effort (mainly yours, to be honest).
This website, as displayed in your browser, consists of static web pages and does not rely on the use of cookies or the collection of user data. So what exactly would be the point of having you click a button only to make such a banner disappear and give you full view of the screen estate again?
No Data Collected Without Your Express Consent
If you decide to contact me, using the contact form provided on the home page, all I will receive is your name, your email, and whatever you enter in the message field. This information is transmitted to me via email (as raw text, sans any metadata).
Other than that, no information is collected. As for data storage in general, I have no need nor intention to store what user information ever may happen to roll my way.
If, however, you decide to contact me, I will keep your name and email address for the duration of our communication — otherwise, I’d have no means of addressing you properly (that is, the way you prefer) or even contact you. Once we both agree that our communication has come to a close, I will delete what information you chose to provide — unless, of course, this information should have become legally relevant during the course of our interaction.
Use of Privacy–Conscious Browsers, Email, or Text Message Services
In fact, I would even encourage you to use browsers — such as Brave or Epic, if you happen to use Windows or MacOS — that let you easily block (and/or disable) all sorts of technologies that might conflict with your privacy concerns. As for the undisturbed use of this website, such measures should make no relevant difference. (You may, of course, also use Tor, but be aware that this level of security comes at the cost of — depending on individual configuration, sometimes vastly — increased bandwidth and reduced speed, or use the NoScript Security Suite with any of the aforementioned browsers.)
This website is using a secure protocol. That means, what information you provide (using the contact form) may not be intercepted by third parties. If, for whatever reason, this happens to be not sufficient to meet your requirements, I shall provide a means of confidential communication outside this environment upon individual request. To this end, however, you will have to provide at least a generic, working and monitored email address first, and ultimately agree with my approach to the matter.
As much as I respect individual people’s concerns as to their online security and the (potential) proliferation of their personal information, I am not interested in wasting time with matters that, for a number of reasons, are beyond the scope of my technical capabilities, resources, or influence — or people who believe to be entitled to a higher level of security than the rest of us.
With that stated, I shall not neglect my responsibility (as a site owner) to inform you to the full extent of my abilities as to what’s going to happen when you visit this site.
The Server Will Collect Data
The server hosting this website will collect data (e.g., your IP address) that may be used to identify the user, at least to some extent. For an in–depth explanation of how my host handles collected data, please review their privacy policy statements.
As far as I can tell, they do not collect more data than is absolutely necessary to provide their services (in a technical or legal context respectively). After all, that is how the internet works: You exchange data — some voluntarily, some to “keep the darn pony on track”, and some other to keep individual legislators satisfied (even though that has usually nothing to do with the functionality of the internet, any one server, or this website).
At any rate, whatever information your browser has access to, is usually also visible to the server. This may include your device IP address, domain name, identifiers associated with your device, type and characteristics of your device and operating system, web browser characteristics, language preferences, clickstream data, your interactions with this website (such as the web pages you visit, links you click, and features you use), the pages that led or referred you to this website, dates and times of access to this website, geolocation information, and other information about your use of this website. (Quite recently, I wrote an article on this matter, you may want to read.)
For more information (and perhaps more clarity), you may want to pay Cover Your Tracks, a project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a visit.
Third–Party Services
This website does employ third–party services. The contact form is run by Formspree, a popular service to provide static web pages with interactive forms.
The fonts and icons displayed are provided by Google Fonts and Font Awesome respectively.
Tracking of visitors by third parties has been restricted, as far as reasonably possible, using this software.
